One week and a few days with Apple TV
My experience with the Apple TV, just over one week in, has been pretty similar to Jason Snell’s.
In short, the Mac Mini was a cool audio and video player, but the Apple TV was designed for connecting to your TV and it shows.
And, as Jason said, the networking features are great. Since we moved, the Mac Mini couldn’t get a decent signal in the living room — it was 50 feet and a whole lotta concrete, steel and drywall away from the wireless access point. But the Apple TV is reporting full signal strength and it streams audio and video like a champ (over an 802.11g network, no less!).
The format limitations haven’t been a problem for me; the seemingly endless possibilities for hacking expanded capabilities are icing on the cake at this point.
So, Apple TV? Highly recommended.
