Microformats

I’ve always thought Microformats were cool in a gee-whiz kind of way, but not super useful since so few practical implementations (on the client, or microformat-consumer side) exist.

That led me to attend The Growth and Evolution of Microformats, a panel at SXSW. Apart from nicely summarizing the history and current state of Microformats, Tantek’s panel connected a few dots by sharing two great Firefox plugins that do useful things with Microformats:

Both essentially look for Microformatted-data in the current page and enable actions like “Add event to Google Calendar” or “Download vCard for this person.”

They’re simple things, but make a world of difference.
