Whatever happened to Whisper?
This spring, a little content management system called Whisper made the rounds (I heard about it from Veen).
From what I remember, Whisper provided an interface for editing very simple sites. You’d create a template shared by all pages, then dump a chunk of text into the template to create each unique page. The edit interface let you make changes to that “chunk” — I think it supported Markdown or Textile so marking up headlines and links was easy.
Their tagline was beautiful: “Quiet content management”
Anyway, whatever happened to Whisper?
A perfect fit
Looking ahead to my projects this spring, I’d like to finally redesign the Green Lake Sailing School site. I worked there for six (seven?) years, and created the current site back in the 90s (*gasp*). For a Photoshop slice-and-dice tables job, it’s not bad. But let’s face the truth: I’ve come a long way, and the GLSS deserves a little web love.
Considering its very simple architecture, the GLSS site is a perfect candidate for Whisper. Even my mother, who runs the day-to-day operations of the school, would be able to make simple edits to the site. Certainly, there are other options: I could set her up with MovableType or an application like Macromedia Contribute. I could continue to maintain the site by hand from year to year. But what I really want is Whisper. Where has it gone?
Can you help?
So, this is the part where I ask for leads. Has anyone heard anything about Whisper? Does someone have a copy of the scripts sitting around? I’ll find a good solution to this problem, but it’s a shame to see such an excellent system fade away like this.
